Clarins

A masseur named Jacques Courtin started the French luxury brand Clarins, in 1954. Courtin created his own treatment oils that he claimed firmed the skin, and sold them from his salon in Paris. The brand name Clarins came from a character he played in a school production, and he saw it as a good luck charm, so fond was he of the name, that he incorporated it into his own, becoming Jacques Courtin-Clarins.

Clarins became the top-selling luxury skincare brand in France in 1980, expanding to the USA in 1981 and by 1990 it was the top selling brand in Europe. The secret to Courtin-Clarins success was his understanding of women, he believed that, for women, happiness was inextricably linked to beauty. In 1996, Clarins became the first French beauty brand to abandon testing on animals, and they have have a very proud track record on all things fair trade and environmentally aware.

Clarins has a stable of classic best sellers, Eau Dynamisante and Beauty Flash Balm to name its top two. But its latest smash hit is Extra Firming Foundation.
