La Mer

The La Mer skin cream is famously luxurious, having developed a cult following almost solely by word of mouth. Crème de La Mer wouldn't have happened if it weren't for an aerospace physicist named Max Huber, after a laboratory accident burned his skin and he set out to create a healing cream. Huber believed that sea kelp was the key to skin's regrowth, if kelp could grow two feet a day contain so many vitamins and minerals, then it could do much the same for the skin. After twelve years and 6,000 experiments Huber finalised the La Mer formula, calling it it the Miracle Broth — and to this day, only a select few know how to create Creme De La Mer.

What we do know is: the kelp is fermented for months with sequences of pulsed light and sound. After Dr. Huber died, chemists attempted re-create the Crème De La Mer without the light and sound, but did not succeed, until Huber’s process was followed with precision. Acquired by Estee Lauder in 1995, La Mer represents supreme luxury and the formulation of Creme De La Mer remains untouched to this day, delivering moisture to the skin, sensitivities are soothed and radiance is restored. La Mer has expanded its luxurious formulations into a diverse range of beauty products including La Mer makeup, body, sun care and targeted skincare.
